Do you guys think that Tibet should be given a right to gain its own independence? Why or why not? From a moral standpoint, I believe that China is wrong and hyppocritical in maintaining its tight control on Tibet. However, from a prgamatic standpoint, it seems highly unlikely that Tibet will gain independence anytime in the near future.

As nobody has responded to this topic, I guess I will. I do believe that Tibet has a right to at least autonomy, if not freedom, which includes religious freedom and a regional government that can manage the affairs of Tibet. I personally believe Tibet has more of a right to freedom than Taiwan (sorry to upset any Taiwanese members). However, it is highly unlikely as all the world powers, such as the U.S., warmly embrace China overall. The U.S. trades a lot with China, and China is a U.N. Security Council member. The U.S. also owes tons of money to China. Therefore, we depend on China, and the U.S. and other world powers criticzing China too much could be disastrous.

Less than 20 countries recognize Taiwan as the actual China, and nearly all these countries are poor countries such as Burkina Faso in Africa.
